The Creative Business Cup (CBC), a world championship for creative entrepreneurs, took place in Copenhagen this 16 to 18 November with some surprises from Portuguese startups. Besides the main competition, CBC also included Innovation Challenges to support innovation in specific areas like food, health, sustainable living, among others.

The good news started with MISS CAN, the winner of the National Creative Industries Award 2015, making it to the semi-finalists (top 12) among 50 other national winners from all over the world. MISS CAN provides a high quality selection of canned fish, using an artisan process, combining the tradition of another era with a fresh new image revealing what Portugal has best to offer. The brand ended up not winning the main competition, but grabbed the 1st prize in the Arla Food Innovation Challenge.

Other Portuguese startups flew to Denmark ready to fight for prizes. Doctor Gummy and Spranger got into the 15 finalists of the CBC Investor Pitch. They didn’t win this category, but Doctor Gummy was also on the run for the best Healthy Innovation Challenge and brought the 1st prize to Portugal.

What’s does Doctor Gummy do? No child likes unpleasant drugs, but children need and love treatment. Doctor Gummy will solve this situation by producing healthy jelly gums, lollipops and chocolates – no sugar, no gluten, no lactose, no artificial colors or preservatives – and combine these with active ingredients, using them as vehicles.

The title of world champion at CBC 2015 went to  Blitab (Austria) who impressed the jury with their world’s first tablet for the visually impaired.

This year, Creative Business Cup was held in collaboration with EBAN Winter University, an annual hotspot for business angels and creative startups. This side event brought another surprise, the Portuguese StemCell2Max won the Most Investible Company award!
