Once more, the Portuguese Association of Business Angels (APBA) and the Association for the economic and social development (SEDES) are organizing the Portuguese Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), from the 16th to the 22nd of November. This year’s edition in Portugal is dedicated to the industry sector. Now that the opening ceremony is ending, what can you expect from the rest of the week?

Network of Industrial Partners

On 17th of November, Covilhã will be talking about how to grow current industries, and if there is enough room to create new industries.

YA Challenge Uber

The main goal of YA Challenge will be to raise students’ awareness regarding daily challenges startups face, and make the participants create innovative solutions for a real problem. The first edition will be about Uber.

Women’s Entrepreneurship Day

The week is integrating a full day dedicated to women entrepreneurs – 19th November, the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED). This day is an opportunity to celebrate, engage and empower women entrepreneurs as part of the largest global celebration of entrepreneurship. In Portugal, the conference is taking place in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Lisbon, and among the speakers we have Mrs Kim Sawyer, founder of The Locator Services Group and chosen as one of  the “Women’s Business Enterprise Stars“ this year; Cristina Fonseca, co-founder of Talkdesk; and Sara do Ó, CEO at Group Your.

Feira do Empreendedor

With two showrooms, Startup Village (which will have more than 50 companies and startups) and the Entrepreneur Showcase, the Entrepreneur Fair intends to create a dynamic similar to a entrepreneurship ecosystem. During the 3-day event, issues like technology transfer, funding, mentoring, incubation and acceleration will be discussed.

2nd Edition of Rockstart Answers

Fast-paced event that helps early-stage startups with hands-on advice in a vibrant mixture of appealing startups and helpful experts. 5 startups will pitch and receive tips and insights from experienced entrepreneurs.

Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony will take place on 20th of November at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. During the entire morning speakers will talk about the current situation of the industry sector, main challenges and how to engage on it. Don’t miss a chance to meet with the President of Bial, the President of of ANI – Agência Nacional de Inovação and players from Fly London Shoes, Frulact, Advanced Cyclone Systems, Damel and Nautilus.

Impact

Since it was announced in 2007 by Jonathan Ortmans (president of GEW), Carl Schramm (former President and CEO of Kauffman Foundation) and Gordon Brown (former prime minister of the United Kingdom), and officially implemented in 2008, more than 157 countries already hosted the Global Entrepreneurship Week. With more than 7.5 million people directly involved in the activities, Global Entrepreneurship Week is the world’s largest celebration of entrepreneurs.
