Scaleup Porto announces that it has selected eight projects out of 57 to receive €70,000 in funding as part of the program’s second open call.

After a successful first edition, expectations were high for the second edition of the ScaleUp Porto Open Call.

ScaleUp Porto has chosen the initiatives to be financed during this year with the €70,000 that the Câmara do Porto has to finance projects that involve entrepreneurship and technology events, according to ECO.

In 2017, eight activities were selected that took place until the end of the year and involved more than 1,600 people, according to data from the organization. The list of activities included conferences and meetups, hackathons and technology exhibitions, as well as workshops and training programs.

The second edition of the competition counted on seven more applications than last year.

The community was challenged and the selection jury had the arduous task of evaluating the 57 applications, and eight finalists were selected.

Incinerator by Founders Founders

Incinerator is a project that promises to give a dignified end to Portuguese startups and make accessible the knowledge and learning gained by its founders during their lifetime.

The project consists of a series of events where founders of failed startups talk about their unsuccessful cases and tell their stories. These events will also be filmed and aggregated into a series that will be made public.

With this initiative, it is intended that Porto be the city where failure is seen as a phase in a process, and where entrepreneurs who fail feel comfortable to share their stories.

This sharing will mitigate future risks while building a more solid ecosystem.

INESC TEC – Leveraging Intellectual Property Strategy for Scale-up

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play a central role in the economy and according to international IPR indicators, there is a gap of awareness and knowledge about the strategic use of IPR in the business, specifically in the area of ​​ICT.

With this activity, which translates into two events, INESC TEC intends to sensitize companies to IPRs and leverage the use of such IPRs in business strategy.

The first event – “IPforBusiness – IP Training Roadshow for Innovation Support” – is a more general workshop that provides an in-depth look at IPRs.

The second – Boosting Intellectual Property for ICT / IoT – Porto Conference – will be an unprecedented event in Porto to bring together entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs with the main specialists in Intellectual Property of international reference companies.

DSPT Day 2018 by DSPT – Portuguese Association of Data Science

This iniative is a day of networking and sharing of knowledge about Data Science that aims to contribute and promote Data Science in Porto.

It will be promoted the sharing of information and experiences among Data Science enthusiasts, as well as providing exchange among startups, and national and international institutions and associations, whose activity is developed in areas relevant to the different disciplines involved in Data Science.

BISTAS LARGAS – Seeing more than the obvious by CINTESIS – University of Porto – FMUP

Creating new knowledge, solutions or products through research, finding new business ideas, and deepening the technological and market variables relevant to the creation of a new company are not enough to focus only on business plans and sources of financing.

It is also necessary to invest in peripheral areas, less visible, often forgotten, but that protect and/or enhance new businesses.

CINTESIS will organize a set of three sessions of interactive training and discussion dedicated to the areas of Intellectual Property, Regulation / Certification and Communication.

Under this initiative, manuals will be created in the three areas mentioned, which will be distributed by the participants and to different stakeholders of the city of Porto.

NinjaChallenge by Jscrambler

Ninja Challenge is an online hacking competition that will look for the best JavaScript programmers.

The competition will consist of two intense weekends of JavaScript hacking that will culminate with an awards ceremony.

Scaleup Porto aims to become a catalyst for the creation of an ecosystem of innovation and a network of individuals and organizations that share the vision of a scaleup program.
