Dashlane, the creators of a digital identity management app, today opens an office in Lisbon with plans to make 40 new hires over the next 18 months.

The new location will serve as a crucial hub as the company that manages online passwords and identities expands its global workforce.

With established offices in New York and Paris, Dashlane opened a new office in Lisbon’s Saldanha neighborhood on Monday.

“When we made the decision to open a new office, we knew we had to do so in a city that understands and values the spirit of innovation,” said Dashlane CEO Emmanuel Schalit, in a statement.

Dashlane made its app available in Portuguese in January 2016, and there are now nearly 200,000 Lusophones using it around the world.

The country has been an essential geography for the company, as its Portuguese user base grew 20% in the last year alone. Additionally, four of Dashlane’s five biggest months for account sign-ups in Portugal occurred in 2018, and the company projects this growth to continue into 2019 and beyond.

“As we researched opportunities around the world, Lisbon quickly became the obvious choice for Dashlane’s newest home,” said Schalit.

“The city is passionate about building forward-thinking businesses and has the skilled and motivated work force to make it happen. We look forward to growing our local presence in the years to come,” he added.

Recently lauded by The Washington Post as “the Apple of the password game,” Dashlane has 150 employees in its Paris and New York offices, and plans to hire 40 people in Lisbon over the next 18 months across its Product, Engineering, and Customer Support Teams.

As Lisbon is quickly becoming a tech startup hub with talented entrepreneurs and a supportive government, Dashlane also announced that its CEO will deliver a keynote speech on the Growth Stage at this year’s Web Summit.

Schalit’s speech will take place at 13:50 on Tuesday, November 6 and will be immediately followed by a panel on hyper growth companies on which Schalit will also participate.

“This will be my third time speaking at Web Summit, and I’m delighted to be doing so again at a time when Dashlane is expanding its presence into Lisbon. It is perfect timing as we look to hire talent in multiple areas for our growing global team,” said Schalit.

Web Summit, which takes place in Lisbon November 5 – 8, is the largest technology conference in the world with 70,000 attendees and 3,000 journalists expected at this year’s event.

Last week, Web Summit CEO Paddy Cosgrave announced that the world’s largest tech conference would remain in Lisbon for a further 10 years until 2028.

Dashlane simplifies and secures digital identities that make up personal information that is stored online. Across all platforms and devices, the intuitive Dashlane app automatically fills and stores passwords, personal data, and payment details to help users manage, monitor, and protect their digital identities.

Available in 11 languages and used by over 10 million people in 180 countries, Dashlane has raised $54 million in venture funding.
