After longing for an Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR), Startup Lisboa announces Hugo Augusto as the incubator’s first.

Hugo Augusto, Startup Lisboa’s first EiR, decided to leave Chicago and return to Lisbon after successfully selling one of the first startups incubated at Startup Lisboa, MyChild.

“Everyone knows that one of the hardest things in this world of innovation is recruiting talent. We had long wanted to have an Entrepreneur in Residence, and we wanted it to have a very specific profile: to be an experienced founder who knew exactly what it was like to be on the hard side of creating a startup,” said Startup Lisboa in a statement.

Augusto will be working very close with the founders at Startup Lisboa, sharing his experience and systematically helping startups in the incubator’s portfolio in the areas of Growth, Sales and Marketing, SaaS, Go-to-market strategy, US Market, Building teams, and Leadership.

“As a founder and CEO, I understand the best practices and challenges that arise from growing the team from a couple of founders to 25 people, accelerating the client base from 10 pilots to hundreds of paying clients in 40+ US states or scaling a product from 1 feature (MVP) to a client solution,” said Augusto on LinkedIn.

Startup Lisboa is looking to fulfill the Entrepreneur in Residence for a permanent position in the long run, but for the time being the slot will be occupied on a temporary basis (for periods to be defined on a case by case basis) by other entrepreneurs with a profile similar to that of Augusto.

The newly-appointed Entrepreneur in Residence’s previous company, MyChild, was an education startup that was sold in 2016 to Brightwheel.

It was developed as a parent engagement tool to help centers/schools to focus on child development instead of paperwork – daily sheets, portfolios and assessments.

Their Software as a Service (SaaS) was designed to enable day care teachers to provide immediate information updates on the activities of children at the day care center. The information is accessible to parents online, anytime, anywhere.

MyChild’s initial key services were in information reports, photos and videos private sharing and event management.
