Energia de Portugal is a joint initiative of Expresso, a reference communication media in Portugal, and EDP, the leading energy company in the country. The project started in 2012 to boost startups in Portugal but this year it takes an international dimension, receiving teams from Brazil and China.

The focus will be in innovative and global ideas, namely in the fields of technology, cities, productivity, energy, mobility, innovation, environment, community and clean tech.

15 teams, for a month, will pass through an acceleration program with 4 weekly bootcamps with workshops and meetings with mentors. Beyond all the learning, the teams are entitled to win the final prize of €20.000.

The launching sessions of Energias de Portugal 2014 will be next Monday, October 20th. 15 teams chosen between 200 applications will be presented, including 5 coming from Brasil and China.

This session will count with several well known names, as Pedro Norton, CEO of Impresa, the media group owning Expresso; Pedro Mexia, CEO of EDP and António Lucena de Faria, President of Fábrica de Startups, the organization responsible for the bootcamps and team selection.

Some of the most recognised projects that participated in the previous editions of the program are:

  • BetApp – online platform that combines the logic of the social network with the concept of betting among friends
  • 3D Spot – design and development of custom products that are then printed in 3D
  • Senior + – the team developed the first generation of tablet created with the older segment of the population in mind
